National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission to have two more members
5/20/2010
The Union Cabinet approved the proposal of creation of two additional posts of Members--one from judicial background and another from non-judicial background-- in the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) to facilitate establishment of one additional Bench for a period of five years.
Briefing newspersons, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said the setting up of the bench would help early clearance of backlog of cases pending before the National Commission in additional to speedier disposal of fresh cases. The Commission has a backlog of about 8,000 cases.
The NCDRC, set up under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, presently comprises the President and nine Members and has five Benches.
