Mumbai: Consumer forum slaps fine on packers and movers

The Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum here has directed a Mumbai-based Packers and Movers agency to refund Rs 7500 charged for insuring the goods which it was unable to deliver safely to an Ambala resident.
The Forum further directed the Balaji Packers and Movers to pay Rs 10,000 as compensation for the lost and damaged goods in addition to payment of Rs 2,000 as litigation expenses to the complainant Ashok Jain.
The forum in its order said that if the other party didn’t comply with the orders within stipulated period then the complainant will be entitled to interest at the rate of 7 per cent per annum from the date of complaint till actual realisation of the fine.
The complainant Mr Jain had booked his household cargo ex Mumbai to Ambala City through Balalji Packers & Movers in December 2009 but didn’t receive it.
