NHRC serves notice to Kerala DGP in Prof T J Joseph case

The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the Kerala Director General of Police on a complaint alleging that many members of a particular community have been harassed by frequent search in relation with Prof T J Joseph attack case.

‘The Commission has issued a notice to Director General of Police, Kerala, and directed for a report within two weeks in connection with a complaint,’ a spokesperson for the NHRC.

The notice was issued on a complaint that in the name of investigation in a criminal case involving attack on Prof T J Joseph of Newman’s College, Thodupuzha, Idukki, many members of various families of a particular family are being harassed by frequent search and seizure of various property.

The notice was issued on the July 16, the spokesperson added.

The complaint was lodged by N M Siddhiq, president, National Confederation of Human Rights Organisation, District Committee, Ernakulam.

Prof Joseph of Newman’s College was attacked recently by some people who chopped off his right hand for allegedly preparing a question paper having derogatory references to Prophet Mohammad.
