New HC Chief Justice will decide on Tamil in courts : Law Minister
6/1/2010
Union Minister for Law and Justice Veerappa Moily said the new Chief Justice of Madras High Court, whose appointment will be made ‘very soon’, will examine and arrive at a decision on the use of Tamil in courts in Tamil Nadu.
Answering questions in a brief interaction with newspersons at the airport here, he said the Union Law Ministry had no plan of setting up a Bench of Supreme Court in any state. ‘We are considering whether an alternative step is possible’, he said.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had written to the Centre seeking the setting up of an apex court bench in Chennai, he said.
He said there was no move to set up a Special Court in Chennai only in view of the increasing number of CBI cases in Tamil Nadu.
However, the Law ministry would be setting up 71 special courts all over the country, he said.
