Delhi HC acquits two men in anti Sikh riots cases
11/18/2009

The Delhi High Court has exonerated two persons serving sentences of eight years of imprisonment awarded by a trial court in two 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases.

Justice MC Garg set aside the verdict of trial courts in two separate cases in which Pyarelal and Parmanand had been convicted and sentenced under the Indian Penal Code.

The police failed to prove the authenticity of the person who had lodged a complaint against them.

The anti-Sikh riots were triggered by the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984, by two of her Sikh bodyguards.

The assassination was in retaliation to Operation Bluestar in which the Army attacked Sikh militants hiding in Golden Temple.
