Existing laws to be amended for trackling cyber crimes: Law Minister

Union Minister for Law M Veerappa Moily said the government will amend the existing laws, including the IT Act, to combat cyber crimes in the country.

Talking at the valedictory function of the Southern Regional Workshop on Cyber Law, he said the country should be equipped in dealing with cyber crimes as tomorrow’s war will be in cyber space.

‘Cyber crimes are on an increase. Even terrorism is now linked with the cyber world,’ he said and added in such a situation, the country needed to be will equipped to tackle such crimes.

There was a misconception that the IT Act, which was passed last year, was for dealing with cyber crimes. It was mainly for legalising e-commerce, he added.

He also said police officials and judges should be more aware about cyber crimes.

Kerala Law Minister M Vijayakumar and Kerala High Court Chief Justice S R Bannurmath were among those present.
