SC dismisses petition filed by J Jayalalithaa
5/12/2010

The Supreme Court refused to entertain a petition filed by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa challenging the trial court order and dismissed her application for discharge in the disproportionate assets case.

A bench comprising Justices B Sudershan Reddy and S S Nijjar told Ms Jayalalithaa to approach the High Court under Section-482 CrPC instead of coming directly to the Supreme Court.

At this, counsel for the petitioner sought permission of the court to withdraw the petition.

The court granted the permission and dismissed the case as withdrawn.

The corruption case was transferred to Bangalore when she was in power to ensure a free and fair trial.

The AIADMK leader is facing trial for acquiring assets beyond her known sources of income, while allegedly misusing her status as Chief Minister.
