CBI files appeal against Bhopal gas tragedy verdict

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed an appeal in the District and Sessions court against the verdict of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) on the Bhopal gas tragedy case delivered on June 7 this year.
The appeal was filed by CBI in the court of District and Sessions Judge Subhash Kakde under Criminal Procedure Code Section 377.
In its appeal, the CBI prayed that the sentence be served separately by those convicted in the Bhopal Gas Tragedy case and the fine on them be imposed in proportion to the number of dead and injured in the tragedy.
The court fixed July 30 as the next date for hearing in the case. Similarly the court fixed August 2 as the date for hearing the appeal filed by the Madhya Pradesh government in the case.
The court also fixed September 28 as the date for hearing the appeal filed by former Union Carbide India Ltd (UCIL) Chairman Keshub Mahindra and other convicts against the verdict.
