2/24/2012

24.2.2012 (UNI) Supreme Court today permitted the Mamata Banerjee Government in West Bengal to withdraw the petition filed by the previous Left Front Government challenging Calcutta High Court order for CBI probe in Nandigram police firing case in which 14 people were killed in 2007.

The victims were protesting forcible acquisitions of their land by the Left Front Government and 14 people lost their lives in police firing.

CPM goons reportedly misbehaved and sexually assaulted the women folk.

The agitation against the police action was led by the present Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee.

The High court had also ordered compensation for the families of the victims which the Left Front Government was hesitant to pay. UNI
