Andhra Pradesh HC adjourn hearing on Jagan's election campaign plea
6/7/2012

7.6.2012 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh High Court today adjourned further hearing to June 21 on the petition filed yesterday by YSR Congress Party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy seeking to permit him to campaign in June 12 by-elections through print and electronic media.

A vacation bench of the court after taking up the hearing of the petition directed the CBI to file counter by that day.

The court clearly stated that under the present juncture it was not possible to 'transfer the information' by Jagan on the pretext of election campaign.

Advocate General brought to the attention of the court that Jagan is not a political prisoner to permit for campaigning and added as per Article 19 (1) of the Constitution, special rights would not be implied on Jagan.

The Kadapa MP had contended in his petition that Principal Secretary (Home department) and Chanchalguda Prison Director- General and DIG had not allowed him to express his views to the voters from the jail where he was under remand in the illegal assets case against him.

He prayed the court to permit for election campaign through print and electronic media under Article 19(1) of the Constitution. UNI
