5/4/2010

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal launched the nine-point ‘Environment Protection Code’ depicting ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ for all educational institutions in the State making it mandatory for the teachers and students to undertake ‘Environment Protection Pledge’ in the morning prayers and make future citizens environment conscious.

The Chief Minister said he had announced to rope in school children in making Himachal Pradesh a truly clean, green and beautiful State by involving them in all environment-related activities and hoped they would act as environment ambassadors.

He said teachers would be required to administer pledge, prepared by the Department of Environment, Science and Technology to their students motivating them to respect all living beings, protect and plant trees, conserve paper, power and water, to shun plastic carry bags and spread the message to their family and friends among other things.

He said that eco-clubs were also being created in educational institutions and plantation campaigns launched from time to time by associating school children to make them part and parcel of every move state made on environment front.

He appealed to the teachers of educational institutions to environmentally discipline themselves, so that their students would also get inspired by their deeds.

He also appealed to every Himachal citizen to pro-actively involve themselves with the environment protection endeavours.
